Design and application notes

Built around the NXP UCODE 9 chip, this inlay uses a 42 × 16 mm dipole antenna, a compact footprint for tags and labels with limited space, and is read by EPC Gen2 (ISO/IEC 18000-63) readers across the 860–960 MHz band.

NXP UCODE 9 provides 96-bit EPC (pre-serialization supported), 96-bit TID with a 48-bit unique serial number, no user memory. NXP specifies a read sensitivity of up to −24 dBm and a write sensitivity of up to −22 dBm for the bare chip; the range of the finished tag also depends on the antenna, the reader and the tagged material. Datasheet highlights: Self-Adjust auto-tuning, Memory Safeguard data integrity, dynamic backscatter and a pre-serialized 96-bit EPC; works with single-slit antennas.

Reference read range: up to 10 m (reference). Real-world range depends on the reader, antenna, power and the material the tag is attached to, so treat it as a comparison value and confirm it with samples on your own items.

Buyers typically use this UHF RFID inlay for apparel hang tags, care labels and price tickets.

The same chip and antenna are available as dry inlay, wet inlay or label; printing, EPC encoding and custom label sizes are quoted on request. Start with samples, then move to volume once the tag passes your tests; volume orders are produced with our ISO 9001-certified production partner and 100% electrically tested inline.

Order in the format you need

Confirm the construction and encoding during sampling, then quote the configuration you validated.

  • Dry inlay

Chip and antenna on a PET carrier without adhesive, for your own converting, hang tags or lamination.

  • Wet inlay

The same inlay with pressure-sensitive adhesive on a liner, applied like a sticker.

  • Label

Paper or synthetic face stock over the inlay, blank or printed, ready for RFID printers.

  • Custom

Other label sizes, face stocks, adhesives, printing, encoding and roll formats on request.

How ordering works

  1. 01

    Specify

Share surface, read distance, chip preference and volume. We shortlist tags that fit.

  2. 02

    Sample

Receive sample tags of the shortlisted designs to try in your own setup.

  3. 03

    Validate

Test on your items, readers and printers. We adjust chip, size or format if needed.

  4. 04

    Produce & ship

Volume production with 100% inline electrical test, then export shipping.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order the AZ-U9-42X16 as a wet inlay or a printed label?

Yes. The same chip and antenna are available as a dry inlay (no adhesive), a wet inlay (adhesive on a liner) or a label with paper or synthetic face stock, blank or printed. EPC encoding and custom label sizes are quoted on request; see custom tags.

What read range will I get with the AZ-U9-42X16?

Our reference value is up to 10 m (reference). Real-world range depends on the reader, antenna, power and the tagged material, so we recommend testing samples in your setup.
